WELL-WOMAN CARE
A well-woman examination is an exam offered to women to review elements of their reproductive health. Routine check-ups with your gynaecologist are essential at any stage in your life. Your reproductive health as a woman changes throughout your life, and be it getting to know your body, regulating hormones and maintaining good health as well as managing various gynaecological conditions, a routine well-woman care check-up with your gynaecologist once a year is vital.
No matter how old you are, building a good, honest relationship with your gynaecologist is essential, especially for you to be comfortable with your gynaecologist. As a gynaecologist, Dr Jagiellowicz understands many women feel nervous about gynaecology exams, and thus he aims to explain each aspect of well-woman care to help you understand the process while educating and empowering each of his patients on how best to take care of their health.
During your well-woman care appointments, your gynaecologist will discuss the medications you are currently taking, your sexual and gynaecological history, menstrual cycle, current health and any other related queries you may have. You will be able to discuss all your concerns during these well-woman care appointments. You are also encouraged to mention any plaguing menstrual symptoms, abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, abnormal vaginal discharge.
Dr Jagiellowicz will examine your breasts for lumps in order to screen for breast cancer. Thereafter a routine pelvic exam, ultrasound scan and pap smear is done to screen for cervical cancer. Cervical cancer screening involves the gynaecologist taking a sample of the cells in the uterus and cervix to check for abnormalities. The sample taken during your pap smear is then sent off to the labs for testing. If abnormal pap smear results are found, further investigation with HPV testing and colposcopy may be needed. While the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is a common cause for abnormalities, Dr Jagiellowicz will recommend a colposcopy to rule out cervical cancer.
These annual well-woman care check-ups provide you with the chance to discuss your concerns and needs at your specific life stage - be it family planning, fertility, contraceptives, hormonal issues or sexual intercourse related queries. Dr Jagiellowicz is a compassionate gynaecologist ready to answer and assist you. With his expertise in urological conditions, Dr Jagiellowicz may also assist in urological issues such as urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, recurrent urinary tract infections, pelvic organ prolapse and other pelvic floor disorders.
